SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD

Rotary International is a service organization that joins leaders, exchanges ideas, and takes action.  The motto of this international organization is Service Above Self.  Rotary is made up of people around the world working together to end polio, clean the environment, improve our communities, and accomplish many extraordinary things every single day.  The Service Above Self Award is in the amount of $2,500.00 and is given to a graduating senior at Grosse Ile High School.  The recipient is an individual that represents the ideal of Service Above Self – doing good in the world for the benefit of others.

The recipient must be able to provide demonstration of their volunteer contribution of time and energy toward the unselfish acts of helping others.  Examples can be one-on-one of a personal nature such as mentoring a youth, providing tutoring or as part of a group activity such as a blood drive, collection drive for a food pantry, work with a church group, etc.  Service Above Self is the basis of this award.

Anyone on staff at the Grosse Ile High School or any community organization may nominate someone using the application.  The finalists may be interviewed by the Rotary Club of Grosse Ile – Service Above Self Award Committee prior to a final decision being made.
